Mamy Gotso from Madagascar
to Join the International Professional Jury of the “Intervision” Contest

Mamy Gotso (real name – Mamy Ravelonandro) is a prominent figure on the Malagasy music scene. In musical circles, he is often referred to as an ambassador of southern Malagasy culture and one of the main pillars of the island’s popular music.

Interestingly, Mamy Gotso was born on December 31, as if destined to usher in a new musical era. The musician was born in southern Madagascar – a land considered the historical cradle of the energetic and popular music style called tsapiky. This genre emerged in the 1970s as a fusion of South African pop music and local Malagasy traditions. Mamy Gotso is one of the pioneers and most influential representatives of this genre.

Many musicologists consider Mamy Gotso the world’s best tsapiky musician, and his distinctive style, often called “disco-tsapiky,” captivates connoisseurs and transcends conventional stylistic boundaries. On stage, the singer radiates energy, perfect rhythm, and charm.

Before becoming a living legend of tsapiky, Mamy Gotso made his mark as a DJ and dancer. The real turning point in the talented musician’s career was the release of his first album, titled Na Volamena na Saphira. This project is a bold blend of traditional tsapiky, rap, and other contemporary sounds. Its release brought the artist phenomenal success: without a single music video, the album conquered all of Madagascar and remained the best-selling release at MARS Production studio for three consecutive years.

Audiences have come to love the depth of Mamy Gotso’s lyrics, his memorable melodies, and his stage charisma. He has become a true national star. The singer proudly represents the musical culture of southern Madagascar during tours across the country and on major international stages. For his unique style and ability to electrify audiences in football stadiums and concert halls, fans have dubbed Mamy Gotso the “Master of Atmosphere.”

Mamy Gotso collaborates extensively with other artists, and his group LaBandaGotso, founded abroad, has already released two albums.

However, it wasn’t just the singer’s incredible energy that earned recognition. Mamy Gotso is also acknowledged as one of Madagascar’s best songwriters, with a talent for creating songs that resonate with a wide audience while being highly distinctive in technical terms.
